Common Brampton Sports Injuries for Soccer Players

Soccer is a hugely popular sport. While it has long been a crowd favorite in European and South American countries, in recent years it has caught on with sports lovers in the United States. It is now one of the most popular sports to play and spectate and is widely enjoyed by males and females of all ages.

Soccer is often thought to be a relatively safe sport. It does not require contact, unlike American football or rugby, and does not require the use of dangerous equipment, such as baseball bats or hockey sticks. Because of this, many prefer the sports to more contact-oriented sports that tend to be responsible for serious injuries such as head trauma.

That said, soccer players are not immune to Brampton sports injuries. Soccer players can injure themselves in a number of ways and these injuries can occasionally be serious and even career ending. For the most part, most soccer injuries are ones to soft tissue. These injuries are often quite minor and tend to heal fully.

As you might expect, the most common Brampton sports injuries for soccer players are to the legs and feet. The reason these injuries are so prevalent is because soccer players spend much of their time running and kicking a ball and employ this area of their body often to the exclusion of other muscle systems. Between 50-80 percent of soccer injuries are isolated to the legs and feet. Among these injuries, almost half (40-45 percent) are related to the ankles or feet, including sprained ankles.

Knee injuries also plague many soccer players, accounting for nearly a quarter of the Brampton sports injuries. These injuries tend to be the most serious and often are due to muscle or ligament tears. For instance, injuries to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament are among the most common soccer injuries, as are Meniscus tears. These injuries can be extremely painful and often are considered season ending, as the recovery time can take months to be completed.

While injuries to the legs and feet are certainly the most common, they are not the only type of injury suffered by soccer players. Head injuries account for somewhere between 4-22 percent of soccer injuries. These injuries can occur from incident such as colliding with another player, a goalpost or the ball. In such instances, a soccer player can suffer a concussion, whiplash or bruising to the neck or shoulders.  Often goalkeepers are among the most susceptible to upper body injuries due to the fact that they are most likely to collide with the ball or goalposts.

Soccer players suffer injuries all the time. While the majority of these Brampton sports injuries are relatively minor, they can be quite severe and require aggressive treatment.
